Chin Remodeling

As balance to the face is a central component of cosmetic surgery, changes to your profile may aid in enhancing your overall result. Chin augmentation may be achieved by either implantation or direct bone remodeling. Although sometimes performed as a single procedure, chin augmentation is often discussed in conjunction with either rhinoplasty, facelift, or submental liposuction procedures.

Implantation is performed through either the mouth or a small external incision hidden below your chin. The choice of approach is often dictated by the type of procedure and implant desired. Implants are usually made out of silicone; an inert substance that is well tolerated by the body.

Bone remodeling (also called a sliding genioplasty) is a more extensive procedure than implantation. It can be indicated for selected patients with significantly smaller chins or poor lower lip competence. Sliding genioplasties are always done using incisions within the mouth and require a longer healing period than implantation. Chin reduction is done in a similar manner. No type of implantation can reduce the size of your chin. These options as well as your individual desires can be discussed with Dr. Westreich at the time of your consultation.
