Rhinoplasty |
|
Rhinoplasty involves re-sculpting the underlying elements of the nose, while maintaining a natural and un-operated appearance. Rhinoplasty can be performed for cosmetic enhancement of the nose. Another reason for a Rhinoplasty is if a patient has had nasal trauma that changed their appearance and produced nasal obstruction. Patients without a history of trauma may also have functional problems, with breathing difficulty that requires a Rhinoplasty-like correction as well as a Septoplasty. This can all be done through incisions on the inside of the nose. Dr. Westreich specializes in both aesthetic and functional Rhinoplasty as well as a technique referred to as Foundation Rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty is performed through either an "open" or "closed" approach. Both surgical techniques can achieve similar esthestic results. The difference lies in whether any incision is made in the skin of the nose. Dr. Westreich is trained in both techniques but prefers "closed" Rhinoplasty (also known as endonasal), which he uses in over 90% of his cases. Since Rhinoplasty is about creating facial balance and harmony, chin augmentation or reduction may be considered at the time of rhinoplasty surgery. |
